Buying a bag of concentrates  I have thought about people who buy someones bag of concentrates, rather then go out and get some on  their own.Being a senior citizen with health issues,I thought I would never buy a bag,but I did. $35.00 for the bag on Amazon, got $22.50,or there so,it was easy,as I didn't have to drive to a gold  producing area.It was what I expected, some nice flakes with one picker. Will I do it again, yup, this winter when I can't get out.Not looking for gold for a profit,I just enjoy doing it,I've learned a lot on geography.Been mining off and on for decades, never really hit a pay streak ,may never happen,it just doesn't matter, the out doors calls me and I go for it. If it isn't hunting, fishing, rock collecting, mushroom picking,or prospecting, then I may not be interested. Use to pick brush decades ago,and fir cones, but that petered out, peel bark, that will clean you out. If you can't get around like you use to,then you might buy a bag and give it a...
It's not in your house.     I see some beginning prospectors buy a bag of concentrates, and complain about the amount of color in the bag. I'm not sure, but,it seems that if someone wants to pan gold, they should go to where there is moving water,as in a river, creek, spring, brook,or even a lake out feed.Prescott, Az.has a small lake called,"Gold Lake,"and it does have gold in the tiny creek that feeds it,I took my late wife and her son there, and yes,we found some color. There are places like that everywhere, well, just about everywhere, just go to your local library and do some research. Better yet, look on line for the BLM website,or go to the state forest service office and buy a map. There a couple websites that are very good,Dig ...
What not to do.       All prospectors know to keep their mouth shut about where they are prospecting,a good way to get your area cleaned out.  We were on the Umpqua river, not saying which fork, finding some nice gold, very tiny colors, but enough to keep it fun, even with a bad back.A woman and her daughter swam across the river asking what we were doing,we said we were panning for gold, finding small pieces, now and then.We went back a month later to the same place, nothing.Someone had gone through and used a dredge, clean as a whistle, not even one color, oops. We have gone to another area since then, finding better color. There is gold to be had, but,it is tiny, takes a long time to even get a gram.East of Cottage Grove, and once you get past the hills south of that town, both sides of the road,on most creeks and rivers, tiny colors, all the way to California.Hard on your  back, make sure you know what the laws are on using different equipment,or,you can get a ticket. Also, you do...

These were during the summer,I was running minerals through the sluice on a creek not very far from home. Winter is now here, seeking placer minerals on roadsides, and mountains is the only way now with the high  water. Some rocks are just beautiful,no value, except pleasing to the eye. Pyrite is a beautiful mineral, and it is every where.

Gold can be found,if you look for it.

There is still plenty of gold to be found, all you have to do is get out and look  for it.Big nugget days are more or less gone for good, tiny specks, and flakes are what you'll find, hard on the back, knees, and feet.  I started back in the late 60's,and still seek out the yellow stuff, for exercise,as  it gets me out of the house with Gayle, something we both like to do. Did I mention most of the gold is tiny, your eyes will strained looking for  it.Those youtube shows are fun,but do not show the many times they do not find any yellow stuff. The TV shows about the Yukon, and Alaska are just not accurate. If you have millions to invest into mining, then yes, they are correct, but for everyday prospectors like us,it is a hobby, that's it. Here in the Northwest, there are thousands of places to look for gold, old maps,if you can find them, show where lobe mining was done.Lobe,is hard rock mining,it isn't cheap, and takes a lot more knowledge then placer mining.Lobe require...
These are some of the rocks I have collected in the last few years, after a time.I'll turn them loose in a river,so someone else can find them. They are not for sale,go find some your self.
